What is Anki?

Anki is a free program for electronic flashcards you can use on your computer, tablet or phone. With LC Languages you can use it to learn 1500+ cards.

Where can I download it?

The words in Unit 1-10 of the book Barron's Essential Words for the IELTS. This Deck is a great combination of some exist decks.The examples all selected from Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English. Go to ANKI website and Install ANKI for Windows / Mac / Linux / iphone / Android Download one of the decks above and unarchive it. To import an ANKI deck file, launch ANKI app, click the File menu and then 'Import'. Now chose imported deck and click ‘Study now'.

How can I use it with LC Languages MP3 podcasts on this site?

There are two LC Languages Anki Decks. One for B2 (stong intermediate, upper intermediate) and one for C1 / C2 (advanced, proficiency). The flashcards in these decks come from the LC Languages Speaking Example Answers. In order to improve your active English vocabulary, you can listen to the Speaking Example Answers to practice listening and reacting to ideas, and then do the flashcards to remember vocabulary, grammar, and cohesive devices from the example answers. Follow these steps …

  • Download the LC Languages deck: B1/B2 (upper-intermediate) = here C1/C2 (advanced / proficiency) = here
  • Use anki to open the downloaded deck
  • Choose a topic from the speaking answers pages and do the listenings: B1/B2 (upper-intermediate) = here C1/C2 (advanced / proficiency) = here
  • Open the anki deck of flashcards that match that topic and start doing the cards. E.g. if you chose 'languages' then open the 'languages' deck
  • Move on to the next topic

There are 1500+ cards in the two LC Languages decks and there are 60-100 cards per topic, so if you do ….

20 new cards a day = one to two topics per week 3 months for 1500 new cards

10 new cards a day = one topic per week 6 months for 1500 new cards

5 new cards a day = one topic every two weeks 12 months for 1500 new cards
